
Rosemary, Salvia Rosmarinus has been used in the kitchen, folklore and medicine and for thousands of years. Today it is most often used in the cooking, but it has many other health benefits due to being packed full of vitamins A, C and B6, antioxidants, iron and calcium.
Rosemary essential oil is used widely to help inflammation, pain, anxiety, respiratory issues, anti aging, boosting the immune system and even improve memory.
Whether steeped in tea or cooked, it has long been used as a natural remedy for treating ailments, however its important to be aware of its possible interactions with medicines, so always consult your GP if you are on medication.
Whilst more research is needed, there’s plenty of evidence to show that rosemary tea may contain compounds that can benefit your heart and digestion, slow down the severity of eye conditions such as cataracts and age related macular degeneration, support weight loss, help high blood pressure, improve anxiety, mood, boost memory and concentration. What’s not to like?
Make yourself a brew of Rosemary Tea, using one teaspoon of chopped rosemary leaves, steeped in hot water for five minutes or more. 1-2 cups a day is a safe amount for most people, but use with caution if you are on existing medication.
Rosemary is also great for the hair. It will bring strength and shine to your locks, fighting against hair loss in menopause and its natural antiseptic qualities will treat your scalp, soothing it from itching and dandruff.
To treat your hair, simply boil a couple of rosemary sprigs in 500ml of distilled water. Boil it for ten minutes, allow to cool and then decant into a spray bottle. Spray into your hair after washing and leave to dry.
